NOV. 2: AG SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET
School of Agriculture scholarship winners, their families, faculty and donors will attend an awards banquet in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms. The featured speaker will be state Sen. Steven R. NOV. 12: P-CARET STATE MEETING
The Purdue Council for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching will hold its annual state meeting on the West Lafayette campus beginning at 8:30 a.m. Purdue Agriculture will ask P-CARET members to help define Purdue's research and extension role on several issues. Sessions include topics such as "What Is the Role of Extension in Welfare Reform?" "The Art and Science of Animal Waste Management," "How Precise Is Precision Ag?" and "Contemporary Youth Development in 4-H." High school students also are encouraged to attend, tour the campus and talk to representatives from the Schools of Agriculture, Consumer and Family Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine. NOV. 18-19: ARBORIST CERTIFICATION CONFERENCE
This conference is for commercial arborists, municipal administrators, consultants and interested citizens who want to prepare for the Certified Arborist exam. Topics covered by Purdue Extension Service and Indiana Department of Natural Resources specialists include tree identification, problem diagnosis, tree planting, establishment and pruning. Attendance is limited to 50, and preregistration is required. The conference, which will begin in Stewart Center at 8:30 a.m., costs $160, payable to Purdue University. The exam, which immediately follows the conference but is not included, costs $100 for International Society of Arborists members and $150 for nonmembers, and payment must be received at ISA headquarters by Nov. 3. NOV. 19: INCOME TAX MANAGEMENT FOR FARMERS
Indiana farmers and others will have an opportunity to learn what the Taxpayers' Relief Act of 1997 means for them during this free closed-circuit television discussion from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Purdue Cooperative Extension Service will present the discussion of the new law on the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunications System.
