JOURNALISTS: Here are newsworthy Purdue events during the next two weeks.
Kids explore space & science at Fall Space Day
On Saturday, Nov. 1, 200 grade school children will meet an astronaut and explore
their interests in space and science during Fall Space Day at Purdue. Students and
their teachers will build an edible model of a Mars rover, "make" a comet and build
a rocket, among other activities. Astronaut and Purdue alumnus Greg Harbaugh will give a
presentation on the job of an astronaut and what it's like to fly in space at 9:30
a.m. in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Harbaugh will have two Q&A sessions with students:
10:50-11:35 a.m. and 12:45-1:30 p.m. in Room 302, Stewart Center. Students are from Indiana
cities including Carmel, Crawfordsville, Kentland, Lebanon, Rensselaer, Van Buren

Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Agricultural economics Professor Larry DeBoer will present a study about the fiscal
impact of residential developments on governments at 7:30 p.m. at the Klondike Elementary
School cafeteria. He will speak to a citizens group called Focus on the Future of Unincorporated Wabash Township, which is concerned about the effects of development.

Astronaut and Purdue alumnus Greg Harbaugh talks about the space program, including
his flight to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. 8-9 p.m. Room 202, Stewart Center.

Sunday, Nov. 2.
13th Annual Indiana Greek Leadership Conference. Fraternity and sorority members from
across the state will work with national and state greek leaders on topics such as
sexism in the fraternity/sorority environment, crisis management and discovering

Board of Trustees meeting. 1:30 p.m. Room 304 (Anniversary Drawing Room), Purdue Memorial

Saturday, Nov. 8.
Physics FunFest. 10 a.m.- noon. Physics Building. Demonstrations for children and
adults of all ages on various topics in physics. Four different 20-minute shows will
run simultaneously in Rooms 112, 114, 203 and 223. Each show will be repeated four
times. Show titles are "Fire and Ice," "Lots of Lightning," "Magic Mechanics" and "Color
Carnival." Area high-school students and their physics teachers -- Roy Applegate from
Harrison and Stan Polstra from Jefferson -- will join Purdue physics students and

Old Masters. Twelve leaders in various professional fields will share their experiences
