JOURNALISTS: Here's a list of newsworthy Purdue events during the next two weeks.

Chemistry show is one hot event

Purdue's Department of Chemistry aims to spark interest in the science behind fire and fireworks during two chemistry shows Saturday, Oct. 25. The one-hour shows, called "Chemistry of Fire," will be at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Room 200 of Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry. Demonstrations will include the chemistry of combustion; how fires can burn under water; and presentations of liquid flames, multiple flame colors, and flames that show a strobe effect. Fireworks materials also will be displayed, with explanations of why things explode. The audience will include children and adults. Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Agricultural economics Professor Larry DeBoer will present a study about the fiscal impact of residential developments on governments at 7:30 p.m. at the Klondike Elementary School cafeteria. He will speak to a citizen group called Focus on the Future of Unincorporated Wabash Township, which is concerned about the effects of development. Friday, Oct. 31.

Saturday, Nov. 1.
Fall Space Day. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Stewart Center. 200 grade school children will participate in hands-on space-related activities, including building an edible model of a Mars rover, making a comet and building a rocket. Astronaut and Purdue alumnus Greg Harbaugh will give a presentation on the job of an astronaut and what it's like to fly in space at 9:30 a.m. in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Harbaugh will have two Q&A sessions with students: 10:50-11:35 a.m. and 12:45-1:30 p.m. in Room 302. Sunday, Nov. 2.
13th Annual Indiana Greek Leadership Conference. Fraternity and sorority members from across the state will work with national and state greek leaders on topics such as sexism in the fraternity/sorority environment, crisis management and discovering the leader within.
