Canadian animal scientist to speak on animal welfare, ethics

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Canadian animal scientist Frank Hurnik will visit Purdue University on Tuesday, Oct. 28, for a discussion of "Farm Animal Welfare, Ethics and Codes of Practice." The talk, which will begin at 7 p.m. in Room 1136 of Lynn Hall, is free and open to the public.

Hurnik is the co-founder and co-editor of the Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics, and he is a member of the Canadian Expert Committee on Animal Welfare and Behaviour. He also is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the American Humane Society.

The talk is sponsored by Purdue's new Center for Food Animal Productivity and Well-Being. The center was formed to promote animal well-being in the food animal production system and to support interdisciplinary research on that subject.
