Purdue trustees re-elect officers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Friday, 9/19) re-elected Indianapolis businessman J. Timothy McGinley to a two-year term as chairman of the board and W. Wayne Townsend, a farmer from Hartford City and former state legislator, as vice chairman.

Both trustees joined the board in 1989 and were first elected officers in 1993.

"Purdue is an institution of great accomplishment and limitless potential," McGinley said. "I am deeply gratified that my fellow trustees have asked me to continue to provide leadership to the Board. Serving one of America's great universities in this capacity has been one of the most challenging and satisfying experiences of my life, and I welcome the opportunity to help Purdue serve our state and nation."

McGinley, the managing partner of House Investments, a real estate investment company, received a Purdue degree in chemical engineering in 1963. As a member of the Boilermaker basketball team, he gained All-Big Ten honors and was recognized as the athlete with the highest scholastic average. He later was named a distinguished engineering alumnus and received his master's degree in business administration from Harvard University.

Townsend, a hog producer in Blackford and Grant counties, is a 1951 graduate of Purdue's School of Agriculture. He served in the Indiana House of Representatives and subsequently the Senate from 1959 to 1987. In 1984, he was the Democratic nominee for governor.
