The concert, presented by Purdue Convocations, will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Schubert's birth with an all-Schubert program and birthday cake served on stage after the performance.
The Los Angeles Piano Quartet, which made its debut in 1977, is one of America's premier piano quartets. Its members are Ayako Yoshida, violin; Katherine Murdock, viola; Peter Rejto, cello; and James Bonn, piano. The Kansas City Star said, "You'll not hear sweeter, more delicate, more fluent, more flawlessly tuned string playing anywhere." They will be joined at Purdue by a guest soprano and a guest double bass.
The quartet has performed throughout the United States and Europe. The performers have been popular guests on radio programs such as Minnesota Public Radio's "St. Paul Sunday Morning." The quartet has also been active in commissioning new works for piano quartet from such prominent contemporary composers as John Harbison, Gerard Schurmann and Stephan Hartke.
Cellist Peter Rejto will lead a discussion of Schubert's music beginning at 2 p.m. in Room 202, Stewart Center. The informance is free and open to the public.
