Indianapolis Symphony returns to Purdue with all new program

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will present a program of international music at 3 p.m. Sept. 21 in Elliott Hall of Music at Purdue University.

The concert, which is sponsored by Purdue Convocations with support from Tenax Corp., is the first concert of Convocations' 1997-98 season. The show is also the first event in the Lively Arts series, which is supported by Cox Communications.

The ISO will present works by Mahler and Tchaikovsky and will be joined by clarinetist Sabine Meyer for the Copland Clarinet Concerto. Meyer is a native of Germany and regularly performs throughout Europe, Japan and the United States. She was the first female member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra before embarking on a solo career.

Conductor Raymond Leppard will lead an informance -- a discussion of the afternoon's music -- that is free and open to the public at 2 p.m. in Room 15, Elliott Hall of Music.

Tickets are $20, $15 and $10 for the public; $12 and $10 for Purdue students; and $7 and $5 for Family Circle seating (second balcony). Tickets are available at campus box offices or charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or 1-800-914-SHOW.
