SEPT. 7: HAMILTON COUNTY FARM FEST
The Hamilton County office of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service sponsors this
event to give the public a hands-on experience with agriculture. The event takes
visitors to five Hamilton County farms. Each location offers family activities, information about how farms operate and a chance to sample farm cuisine. Visitors on the tour
can start and stop at any farm involved. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Food at each site can be purchased for a small fee. Maps for the five farms are available
from the Hamilton County Extension Office in Noblesville, (317) 776-0854.
SEPT. 8-12: PURDUE MILKER TRAINING WORKSHOPS
The Purdue Cooperative Extension Service sponsors these five workshops to help anyone
who milks to develop an understanding of cow anatomy and physiology, milking procedure,
hygiene, mastitis and antibiotics, regulations, milking equipment and sanitation.
Enrollment is limited to 20 per day on a first-come, first-served basis. Lunch will
be provided. The $30 registration cost covers preparation of materials for the workshop
and must be paid by Sept. 1. The one-day workshops run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept.
8-12 at these sites:
- Sept. 8, Luekens Dairy, Birdseye
- Sept. 9, John Finke Dairy, Columbia
- Sept. 10, Kuehnert Dairy, Fort Wayne
- Sept. 11, Lavon Martin Dairy, Goshen
- Sept. 12, Tuholski Farms Inc., Mill Creek

SEPT. 17: FELDUN PURDUE AG CENTER FIELD DAY
The ag center will hold its semi-annual field day, with presentations on "Managing
Potato Leafhoppers and New Resistant Alfalfa Cultivators," "Turnips, Millet and Sorghum
Sudan Grass Double Crop Grazing Options," and "Cow Condition Scoring: Thin Cows or
Fat Cows." A rescue demonstration dealing with pesticide spills also will be given.
Jeff Armstrong, Purdue's new head of animal sciences, will deliver an introduction
and comments for the day. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Lunch can be purchased
for a nominal fee. To get to the Feldun Purdue Ag Center, take State Road 158 west from Bedford
to State Road 458. The center is located one mile north of that intersection. CONTACT:

OCT. 11-12: SHEEP SHEARING SCHOOL
Purdue's Department of Animal Sciences and Cooperative Extension Service, in cooperation
with the Indiana Sheep Breeders Association, invite beginning and advanced shearers
to attend sheep shearing classes. The program will emphasize hands-on learning of
shearing techniques, care and use of shearing equipment and ways to increase the value
of the wool crop. Charlie Swaim, a shearing expert, will be the featured instructor.
The school will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 11, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Oct. 12 at the Dubois County Fairgrounds in Jasper. A fee of $35 per person pays for refreshments
and the use of sheep and shearing equipment. Enrollment is limited to 25 people on
