At $34 for the public and $22 for students and senior citizens, season tickets can be purchased for all four of the 1997-98 season shows. Season tickets are sold at a 25 percent discount over the cost of individual tickets for each show. Season ticket holders also receive priority in seating. Individual show tickets are also on sale.
The season kicks off Sept. 25-Oct. 5 in the Experimental Theatre with Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers." Directed by Dale Miller, interim chair of the theater division, "Lost in Yonkers" examines the relationship between a grandmother and mother seen through the eyes of two young grandchildren. Show times are 8 p.m. with the exception of Oct. 5, when the curtain rises at 6 p.m. There will be no performance Sept. 29. Individual tickets are $11 for the public and $7 for students and senior citizens.
"Three Sisters" by Anton Chekov will be performed in the Experimental Theatre Nov. 13-23. Directed by Kristine Holtvedt, associate professor of visual and performing arts, "Three Sisters" is a human comedy full of the banter of youth and hope as well as the self-realization of old age. Tickets are $11 and $7. There will be no performance Nov. 17, and the Nov. 23 performance is at 6 p.m.
Shakespeare usually is a part of Purdue Theatre seasons. This year, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will be presented in Loeb Playhouse Feb. 20-28. Guest directed by Rita Giomi, this whimsical tale follows four main characters as they ricochet between love and hate. Tickets are $12 and $8.
"The Birthday Party" by Harold Pinter wraps up the mainstage season April 16-26 in the Experimental Theatre. In this comedic mystery, directed by visiting professor Robert Knopf, two men show up to help "Stanley" celebrate his birthday. The only problem is, it's not his birthday. Tickets are $11 and $7.

The Purdue Theatre Division traces its roots to the Harlequin Club. Organized in 1907,
it was the first ongoing university activity dedicated exclusively to the staging
of theater productions. That year the group gave three performances of "President
of Oolong."
