WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Approximately 875 Purdue University students will be eligible to receive degrees during commencement ceremonies at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Elliott Hall of Music.
About 425 students will be eligible for undergraduate degrees, said Roy A. Johnson, associate registrar. About 280 other students will qualify for master's or educational specialist degrees, and an estimated 170 doctoral degrees will be conferred.
Purdue President Steven C. Beering will be the commencement speaker. Purdue Alumni Association President Dr. Charles E. Boonstra, St. Joseph, Mich., also will address the new graduates during the ceremonies. Pedro Salcedo (sal-SAY-doe), Lima, Peru, will give the student response. He will earn a bachelor's degree from the School of Management.
Music for the ceremony will be presented by the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Anne Harrigan. Mendi Armstrong of Peru, Ind., a student participant in Purdue Musical Organizations, will be the featured soloist. She is a junior in the School of Nursing.
This will be the 172nd commencement ceremony at Purdue. The university has been recognizing
summer graduates at the West Lafayette campus every year since 1984.
