This calendar lists events on Purdue's West Lafayette campus or involving people or programs off campus during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**).

** Tuesday-Wednesday, July 29-30. Rural Leadership Training Conference for Persons With Disabilities. Crossroads Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis. This fourth annual Breaking New Ground conference is for persons with disabilities, family members, counselors, and educators. The training fee is $75, but scholarships are available. ** Thursday-Saturday, July 31-Aug. 2. Indiana Land Care Exposition. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jeff and Trisha Stevens farm near Shelbyville. A free event about taking care of and protecting the land and about solving problems for landowners. Displays by the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, the Land Improvement Contractors Association, USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Indiana Ground Water Association. ** Wednesday, Aug. 6-Sunday, Aug. 17. Indiana State Fair. Indiana State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis. In addition to the 4-H exhibits, Purdue Agriculture will return to the Pioneer Our Land Pavilion with displays and interactive exhibits centered around how we feed the world. Special events include concerts by country stars, midway rides, daily parades, free exhibits, food and home improvement demonstrations, Black Expo Day, Clown Day, petting zoos and more. Advance tickets are $4 at Marsh Supermarkets, Revco Drugs, Indiana Farm Bureau, Signature Inn and the Indiana State Fair Box Office. Tickets at the door are $5. • Thursday-Saturday, July 31-Aug. 2. 15th Symposium of the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators. Lynn Hall. Three-day symposium for veterinary technician educators throughout the United States and Canada. Registration fee is $110 and includes AVTE business luncheon. ** Through Aug. 3. "Caring for Collections," 19 paintings from the Permanent Collection that are in need of repair. The exhibit is designed to acquaint the public with some of the complexities of conserving works of art. Summer gallery hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; 7-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, and 1-4 p.m. Sundays. Stewart Center Gallery, West Lobby, Stewart Center.

• Sunday-Friday, July 20-25. Seminars for Top Engineering Prospects (STEP). The one-week seminar is aimed at giving students who will be high school seniors in 1997-98 a chance to learn about the educational and career opportunities in engineering.
