JOURNALISTS: The following are newsworthy Purdue-related events during the next two weeks.

Art exhibit focuses on preservation

In an effort to acquaint the public with some of the complexities of conserving works of art, Stewart Center Gallery is exhibiting 19 paintings -- all in need of repair. Called "Caring for Collections," it includes conservator recommendations for treating the art works. Summer gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. The exhibition runs through Aug. 3. The Purdue University Galleries has received a grant to assist in the care and conservation of the galleries' collections. The Conservation Assessment Program grant was awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Property. The grant will fund professional consultation from conservators who will evaluate the care policies, procedures and environmental conditions of the galleries' current collections.
