JULY 7-18: PURDUE AGRICULTURE CERTIFICATE COURSES
These courses provide choices for today's agribusiness professionals interested in
a variety of food, agricultural and natural resource topics. Courses offered in the
PACC series this summer are "Commodity Marketing Management," "Soybean Management,"
"Introduction to Precision Farming," "Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management," "Swine Management
I" and "Introduction to Soil Science." PACC allows participants to either complete
12 courses for a certificate of graduation or just enroll in the courses that meet their specific needs. The courses are offered on Purdue's West Lafayette campus
and meet for one to two weeks each. To be admitted to PACC, students must be high
school graduates or at least 18 years old. There is a one-time, nonrefundable admission

JULY 8-9: 66th FARM MANAGEMENT TOUR
Five farm families in Decatur and Jennings counties will be hosts for the 66th Annual
State Farm Management Tour for farmers and agribusiness persons. Decatur County tour
hosts are Gary and Patty Redding, Roy and Denise Friedersdorf, David Miers, and Larry and Carol Pumphrey. In Jennings County, hosts will be George and June Corya and Don
Biehle, superintendent at the Southeast Purdue Agricultural Center. The two-day event
will kick off at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Redding farm. Lunch will be served
at the Southeast Purdue Agricultural Center that day. Wednesday, July 9, tours will
begin at 8 a.m. at Friedersdorfs', and lunch will be at the Miers' farm. Cost for
Wednesday lunch is $1. Purdue agricultural economist Chris Hurt will give his corn/soybean

JULY 11-12: PLANT HEALTH CARE WORKSHOP
The 1997 Midwest Plant Health Care Workshop, to be held at the Hampton Inn in Indianapolis,
is sponsored by the Indiana Arborist Association and Purdue University. Intended
for experienced professionals, the sessions will cover plant care programs for residential, commercial and municipal properties. Cost is $150. The workshop qualifies
for certified arborist continuing education units. Space is limited and preregistration

JULY 20-23: TOP FARMER CROP WORKSHOP
Forty-five farmers, professionals and company presidents will share techniques such
as production technology, marketing and personnel management. Sessions include precision
farming, land-grant research in site specific farming, using technology to analyze
corn and soybeans, the future of genetics, and farming without subsidies. The workshop
will be held on Purdue's West Lafayette campus. Registration is $199 for the first
person from a farm and $75 for each additional person from the same farm. CONTACTS:

JULY 28: TURF FIELD DAY
Purdue will showcase its latest turfgrass research with cultivar trials, pest management
studies and turf management studies. The event takes place at Purdue's Agronomy Research
Center and is intended for golf course personnel, lawn care operators, sports turf managers and general grounds managers. Visitors can stop by a turfgrass trade
show and sample a barbecue lunch for $10. The preregistration fee is $17 for center
members and $22 for nonmembers. Registration on the day of the event is $22 for members

JULY 29: SOUTHEAST PURDUE AG CENTER FIELD DAY
The Southeast Purdue Ag Center in Butlerville invites the public to get acquainted
with the facility through several tours. Tours include "Forest Management Assistance
Programs," "The Future of Bt Corn," "Purdue's Liming Recommendation," "Corn and Soybean
Herbicide Plots," and "Identifying Common Field Crop Diseases." Tours begin at 9 a.m.
A complimentary lunch will be served at noon. There is no cost for registration,
but visitors are asked to RSVP for lunch with the Extension office in their county.

JULY 31, AUG. 1-2: INDIANA LAND CARE EXPO
The Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and the Indiana Land Improvement Contractors
Association will hold this three-day expo to educate the public on land care. From
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, visitors can see land care displays and watch the construction of farm ponds, animal waste lagoons, gardening and home orchards at a farm near
