JOURNALISTS: The following are newsworthy Purdue-related events during the next two weeks.

ScienceScape campers will have fun with physics

Adolescent girls will take "big hair" to new heights Monday through Friday (June 23 - 27) as part of ScienceScape '97, a week-long residential science camp at Purdue. The 7th, 8th and 9th graders will be experimenting with static electricity, magnets and electromagnetism, slinky waves and optics using Purdue's physics laboratories. There will be numerous photo and video opportunities during both the morning (8:30 to 11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (2 - 4 p.m.) lab sessions. Camp Calcium with African-American girls ages 11 to 13 for a study on racial differences in bone structure. Girls participate in camp-like activities while researchers study their calcium intake and retention. Wednesday, June 25.
Student panel discussion on science and math titled, "Teaching: What Does and Doesn't Work : A Student Perspective." 3 p.m. Room 214, Stewart Center. Seven middle and high school students from the Greater Lafayette area will participate in the Aerospace Teacher's Workshop event. Friday, July 4.
Stars and Stripes Concert. 6 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. Tippecanoe County's Annual July Fourth Celebration begins with the Purdue Jazz Band. The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at 7:15 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled for approximately 9:25 p.m. The concert is free, and the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics for the evening.
