EDITORS: This Purdue calendar will be produced every other week during the summer, unless events
warrant otherwise.
This calendar lists events on Purdue's West Lafayette campus or involving people
or programs off campus during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the
public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated
listings have two asterisks (**).

ENTERTAINMENT
- Tuesday, June 10. Purdue Extension Homemakers Chorus Festival Concert. 7:30 p.m.
Elliott Hall of Music. The concert will highlight 44 choruses from different Indiana
counties with nearly 1,000 singers performing. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased
at the Purdue Box Office at (765) 494-3933.
- Friday, June 20. Elderhostel Workshop Concert. 2 p.m. Westminster Village, 2741 N.
Salisbury St., West Lafayette. A presentation by about 50 senior citizens from around
the country who are participating in the second annual Elderhostel Workshop, "No
Fun Without Music -- No Music Without Fun."
** Friday, July 4. Stars and Stripes Concert. 6 p.m. Slayter Center for the Performing
Arts. Tippecanoe County's July Fourth Celebration begins with the Purdue Summer Jazz
Band. The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at 7:15 p.m. Fireworks are
scheduled for approximately 9:25 p.m. The concert is free, and the public is encouraged
to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics for the evening.
CONFERENCES, WORKSHOPS
- Wednesday-Friday, June 11-13. Home and Family Conference. Featuring seminars and
workshops on topics such as consumer issues, parenting and health-related matters.
Sponsored by Purdue and the Cooperative Extension Service. Most activities take place
in Stewart Center and the Purdue Memorial Union. Registration is $31 for the full conference

- June 16-27. An International Training Program in New Crops: Aromatic and Medicinal
Plants. This two-week seminar at Purdue is sponsored by the Center for New Crops
and Plant Products, Purdue and the Program for Collaborative Research in the Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Illinois, Chicago. Cost is $1,900, due by June 5. For program

- June 23-26. Third Annual Aerospace Teachers Workshop. 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily. Room
214, Stewart Center. A demonstration of aviation and space experiences for use in
K-12 classrooms. Sponsored by the Indiana Space Grant Consortium. Registration is

** Sunday-Friday, July 13-18, and Sunday-Friday, July 20-25. Seminars for Top Engineering
Prospects (STEP). The one-week seminars are aimed at giving students who will be
high school seniors in 1997-98 a chance to learn about the educational and career
