Faculty earn grants to develop multimedia materials
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Thirteen proposals to develop multimedia instructional materials
have received grants from Purdue University's Center for Instructional Services.
The grants, ranging from $9,000 to $13,000, will be used to develop classroom materials.
Jim Russell, interim director of the Multimedia Instructional Development Center,
said 43 proposals were submitted. "All the proposals were excellent. It was unfortunate we could only fund 13 projects," he said.
The funded proposals and the developers are:
- "Use of Groupware to Enhance Classroom Instruction and to Develop Distance Education";
Wallace E. Tyner, head of the Department of Agricultural Economics.
- "WWW-Based Soil and Water Quality Modeling to Enhance Student Learning: From Researchers'
Desks to the Classroom"; Rabi H. Mohtar, assistant professor of agricultural and
biological engineering, and Bernard A. Engel, professor of agricultural and biological engineering.
- "An Interactive Video of Teaching Clinical Reasoning to Undergraduate Students";
William D. Evers, associate professor of foods and nutrition.
- "Interactive Multimedia Cases of Science Teaching for Undergraduates in Elementary
Education"; Sandra K. Abell, associate professor of science education, and James
Lehman, professor of curriculum and instruction.
- "Virtual Microchip Fabrication Environment to Illustrate Materials Processing Phenomena
to Augment Instruction in a Range of Courses in Science and Engineering"; Gerald
L. Liedl, head of the School of Materials Engineering; Jerry M. Woodall, the Charles
W. Harrison Distinguished Professor of Microelectronics, and Michael W. McElfresh,
associate professor of physics.
- "Developing a Highly Integrated, Multimedia-Based Digital Systems Laboratory Course
Sequence Incorporating Teamwork-Centered Design Projects"; David G. Meyer, associate
professor of electrical engineering.
- "Development of Multimedia Japanese Language Instructional Materials"; Atsushi Fukada,
associate professor of foreign languages and literatures.
- "Multimedia Instruction for Cognitive Psychology"; Gregory Francis, assistant professor
of psychological sciences.
- "Instructional Modules for Marketing Management"; Jonathan D. Bohlmann, assistant
professor of management.
- "Use of the World Wide Web in Introductory Physics Courses"; David Elmore, professor
of physics.
- "Simulation of the Microscopic Domain in Chemistry"; William R. Robinson, professor
of chemistry and science education.
- "Development of Multimedia Course in MET 162"; Joseph F. Kmec, associate professor
of mechanical engineering technology.
- "Development of Interactive Multimedia Instructional Programs in Anatomy and Physiology
for Use in On-Campus and Distance Education Courses for Veterinary Technicians";
Carlton H. Lamar, associate professor of veterinary anatomy, and Abdelfattah Y. Nour, assistant professor of basic medical sciences in collaboration with Robert L. Bill,
associate professor of basic medical sciences, and Gordon L. Coppoc, head of the
Department of Basic Medical Sciences.
