MAY 20-21: TRI-STATE DAIRY NUTRITION CONFERENCE

The conference runs from noon May 20 to 3 p.m. May 21 at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne. It is sponsored by Purdue, Ohio State and Michigan State universities and is designed for those who advise farmers of current information on the feeding of dairy cattle. Session topics include: relationship between nutrition and immune response, interpreting blood analysis, and energy values for feed. Conference registration is $125. JUNE 9-11: INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL AGRICULTURE TEACHERS WORKSHOPS

This workshop at Purdue, sponsored by Purdue University and Indiana Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, is aimed at keeping the state's agriculture education teachers up to date. Sessions include using the World Wide Web, old barns of Indiana, in-service programs for agricultural mechanics and ideas for teaching entomology. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. June 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 11. The conference fee is $35, not including lodging. Most teachers stay at the University Inn, 800-777-9808. JUNE 11-13: HOME AND FAMILY CONFERENCE

Sponsored by the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, this conference at the West Lafayette campus offers sessions about kitchen advances of the last 50 years, the Internet, laundering pesticide-exposed clothing, medicinal plants and health care, family stories and more. The conference also offers tours of campus, entertainment events and motivational speakers. The conference runs from 8 a.m. June 11 to 11:30 a.m. June 13. Conference fee is $31, including housing. JUNE 11-13: AEROSPACE SCIENCE WORKSHOP

This workshop open to 60 4-H members, high school freshmen through seniors, will feature model rocket and airplane building along with a plane ride. Classes will include navigation, control tower operation, engine maintenance and metal fatigue. Participants also will tour a 727 aircraft. Fee is $65. JUNE 11-13: 4-H AMBASSADOR WORKSHOP

This workshop sponsored by Agri-America Network and the Indiana 4-H Foundation teaches 100 4-H'ers ages 15-18 to spread the 4-H message to non-members through public relations. Sessions include writing news releases, making presentations, developing marketing skills and participating in radio interviews. Fee is $30. JUNE 11-13: 4-H ANIMAL SCIENCE WORKSHOP

The workshop, for 4-H'ers nominated to attend at the county level, offer participants the opportunity to gain more knowledge in beef, sheep, swine, dairy, horses, poultry, aquaculture, dairy goats and rabbits. Fee is $80. CONTACT: Norm Long, Department of 4-H Youth, (765) 494-8435.

JUNE 11-13: 4-H COMPUTER SCIENCE WORKSHOP

This workshop open to 32 4-H members is conducted in two tracks -- Internet and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). The Internet track features sessions on using search engines, using a Web page, using Hyperlink and designing a homepage. The PLC track features sessions on programming a simple one-arm robot. JUNE 11-13: 4-H ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION WORKSHOP

This conference is designed to educate 50 4-H'ers ages 14-19 about natural resources and acquaint them with careers involving natural resources. JUNE 11-13: 4-H FOOD SCIENCE WORKSHOP

Participants in this workshop will attend sessions on bacteria growth, physical fitness, food pigments, food safety and fat and sugar substitutes in ice cream. They also will learn about career opportunities in this field. This workshop is open to 72 4-H members who are in high school. Fee is $75. JUNE 11-13: 4-H MECHANICAL SCIENCES WORKSHOP

This program is aimed at educating participants about recent advances in agricultural and biological engineering and the career opportunities in the field. Workshop sessions include "Operating a Garden Tractor in Close Quarters," "Playing Tug-of-War with a Grain Bin and a PTO Shaft," "Overhead Powerline Safety" and "How Hard Does a Basketball Floor Need to Be?" JUNE 11-13: 4-H PLANT SCIENCE WORKSHOP

H'ers participating in this workshop will attend sessions on horticulture, plant propagation, landscape architecture, floral designing and more. JUNE 12 AND 13: IN-FIELD DIAGNOSTIC TRAINING

These sessions at the Purdue Agronomy Research Center about five miles west of West Lafayette are designed to help all crop producers -- especially those interested in Integrated Crop Management or the Certified Crop Adviser Program. These programs will address crop problem development and its relationship with crop growth to help producers identify insect, herbicide, nutrition and environmental problems in corn and soybean fields. The June 12 session will be repeated June 13. Other sessions include July 24 (repeated July 25) and Sept. 11. Space is limited, and registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. JUNE 16-27: AN INTERNATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM IN NEW CROPS

This two-week program -- An International Training Program in New Crops: Aromatic and Medicinal Plants -- at the West :Lafayette campus will benefit those seeking in-depth training in economic botany, horticulture and agronomy, processing, and in the pharmaceutical and industrial products area. Sponsored by the Center for New Crops and Plant Products, Purdue University and the Program for Collaborative Research in the Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Illinois, Chicago. JUNE 18: PURDUE HAY DAY

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Howard County Fairgrounds and features sessions on potato leafhopper-resistant alfalfa, balage, forage rest, seeding alfalfa with fluid fertilizer and producing quality forage. There also will be a producer panel on developing and maintaining a successful cash crop hay business. The afternoon sessions will feature equipment demonstrations from more than a dozen equipment companies. A hay quality contest also will be part of the event. The free event is sponsored by the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service and the Indiana Forage Council. There is a $6 fee for lunch. CONTACT: Keith Johnson, (765) 494-4800.
