Faculty and Staff Honors
-- Joseph LaLopa, assistant professor of restaurant, hotel, institutional and tourism management, received the first Bruce I. Lazarus undergraduate teaching award. The recipient is selected by a vote of students in the department. LaLopa received $300 and a plaque. The award is based on effectiveness, teaching methods, enthusiasm and respect for students.
-- Nicholas A. Peppas, the Showalter Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Fellow status in the organization is one of the highest honors that can be conferred on a chemical engineer. Peppas' research interests include polymer hydrogels, biomaterials and drug delivery systems. His research has applications for treating diseases such as diabetes.
