3. NAT SOUND Landing that first job after graduation from college may be easier this year. Purdue University placement director Dick Stewart says economic changes are creating job opportunities for the class of '97. He says about six percent more entry-level positions are available this year compared to last.

4. SOT

CG: Dick Stewart, Director, Purdue Placement Service I think we went through a period of downsizing and rightsizing . . . It appears that industry and business have found some of the answers to the questions they had, and now they're beginning to look for ways to replace folks.

5. NAT SOUND Most universities like Purdue provide a placement center to aid students with their employment search. By using the World Wide Web, Purdue's placement center has made the process of finding job leads even easier.

6. SOT

CG: Matt Prestopino, Junior, Industrial Management I've been continuously monitoring the World Wide Web . . . It's easier when you're attending a university to meet with recruiters and have the opportunity to actually interview . . . I've made a lot of contacts, and I think that that's a very. . . good edge to have.

7. NAT SOUND Stewart says the top job opportunities for 1997 grads will be in the fields of technology, business, and health.

8. SOT

CG: Manish Daswani, Senior, Computer Technology My major is computer technology, and I've enjoyed it I think a lot because it's given me a lot of team skills . . . I've got a job in San Jose, California, which is right in Silicon Valley where all the computer companies are . . . I'm real excited about going there now.

10. SOT

CG: Leeann Botzum, Senior, Pharmacy I wanted to do something in the health care field, and I figured pharmacy was a big push when I graduated from high school. They're saying women would have a great impact . . . and I just wanted to be a part of that.

13. SOT (Matt) Keep reviewing your resume. Update it. Definitely send cover letters and resumes to as many companies as you can. If you have the opportunity, put your resume on the World Wide Web.
