Accolades are accolades, but having a building named after you is an honor of the first order.
Generations of students, faculty and staff will see your name and maybe, just maybe, wonder what you did to earn the distinction.
Matthews Hall is named for Mary Matthews, first dean of the School of Home Economics. It was opened in 1923 as the Home Economics Building and later was known as Home Economics II when the building now known as Stone Hall was completed in 1954. It was renamed in 1976.
Meredith Residence Hall is named for Virginia Meredith, farmer, educator, lecturer, Purdue trustee and an inspirational force in the founding of the Department of Household Economics in 1905 and the School of Home Economics 21 years later.
Known as Residence Hall X, the building opened as a hall for men in 1952 and first housed women in 1958.
