Alumni Honors:
The Purdue School of Consumer and Family Sciences is honoring eight alumnae this year.
- Deb A. Maxwell, Hoboken, N.J., received the Outstanding Young Professional Award.
Maxwell is vice president of women's sales for the Giorgio Armani Fashion Corp.
- Rena Smith Humerickhouse, Goshen
, received the Community Service Award. Humerickhouse was recognized for developing
high school courses to help students deal with a variety of problems.
- Vianna Bramblett, Loveland, Colo., received the Friend of Purdue Award. Bramblett,
Purdue professor emeritus of foods and nutrition, was recognized for mentoring, guiding
and serving as a role model to students.
Five persons were named distinguished alumni of CFS:
- Betty Werner Feather, Greensboro, N.C., professor and chairwoman of the Clothing
and Textile Department of the University of North Carolina. Feather's research focuses
on clothing for individuals with special needs.
- Carol Champer Murrel, Newport Beach, Calif., a certified life underwriter for Mass
Mutual. She's won several employee of the year awards and is a life member of Mass
Mutual's Million Dollar Round Table.
- Melpomenie Pavella, Athens, Greece, the first director of home economics of the Greek
Ministry of Agriculture.
- Anne Cooper Ready, Santa Monica, Calif., founder of Ready for Media, a communications
consulting firm specializing in media coverage and personal appearances.
- Nancy Conklyn Saltford, Washington, D.C., professor emeritus at Cornell University.
Her accomplishments include starting the Summer Minority Student Fellowship Program
at Cornell and programs for limited-resource families.

The Purdue School of Liberal Arts has named three distinguished alumni:
- Carolyn Cummings Perrucci, West Lafayette
, associate dean of the Graduate School and professor of sociology at Purdue. Co-author
of four books, she also consults the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States
and is past president of the North Central Sociological Association.
- H. Ray Hoops, Evansville
, president of the University of Southern Indiana. Hoops has published 28 articles
in the area of communication disorders, is a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association, and serves on several boards of directors.
- Earl B. Notestine, West Lafayette
, retired associate dean for academic support services. His accomplishments include
starting the Learning Center in 1972 and overseeing the implementation of the School
of Liberal Arts' new core curriculum in 1993.
