'Team Nutrition Days' educate kids on healthy eating

May 5-9 has been designated "Team Nutrition Days" across the nation as school children participate in programs to promote healthy eating. Sponsored by the USDA, activities planned include creating school gardens and setting up nutrition fairs and food tastings. "Cooperative Extension is working with communities to help in the education effort, " says William Evers, associate professor of foods and nutrition. "From improving school lunches to teaching about the food pyramid, it's important to reach children with information about healthy nutritional choices." Evers says the eating habits children establish will be with them for a lifetime. He has a list of more than 800 Indiana schools expected to participate.
