Seven Purdue students receive $2,460 leadership awards

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Seven Purdue University students received Charles O. McGaughey Leadership Awards today (Friday, 4/18) during the University Honors Convocation.

Each student received an unrestricted cash award of $2,460. The recipients are Cory Ann Armstrong, Carmel , Misty Lynn Best, Georgetown , Julia Michele Blatnak, Mequon, Wis. , Amy Suzanne Bredhold, Jasper , Jill Marie Hoffman, Jasper ; Tara Catherine Lagu, Carmel , and Glenn Robert Noll, Wolcottville .

McGaughey, a 1939 Purdue graduate from Indianapolis , established the award to honor undergraduates who show leadership abilities and an appreciation of basic American values through service to the community and the university. McGaughey co-founded the Indiana-based MCL Cafeteria chain. He died in 1992. The first awards were presented in 1991.

Recipients must have completed at least two years of study at Purdue while maintaining a B average and have an appreciation of the values of liberty, the democratic form of government, and the importance of respect for others and for the diversity of the United States.
