Education reform course offered via computer

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The School of Education is taking the classroom to its students by way of the Internet this summer.

EDCI/EDFA 591, Topics in Educational Restructuring, will be offered for students across town and across the Atlantic Ocean during the 1997 summer session, May 19-Aug. 8. Previous participants have taken the class from as far away as Norway, but most students have been Indiana residents.

This special graduate-level course explores important and timely issues related to educational reform and restructuring, and will be conducted via computer-mediated distance education. This approach will center around the use of electronic mail and the World Wide Web as the vehicles for conducting class "discussions" and communication. Other than an initial orientation session and optional follow-up sessions on Purdue's West Lafayette campus, there will be no scheduled class meetings. Students will be able to contribute to the class at any time and from any place that is convenient for them.

Successful students will earn three credit hours upon completion of EDCI/EDFA 591. Tuition is $345 for Indiana residents, and a one-time $30 application fee is required for anyone who has not previously taken a graduate-level course at Purdue. Enrollment is now under way through Purdue's Continuing Education Administration. For more information, contact John Almon, (765) 494-2973; fax, (765) 494-0567.
