Purdue, Lin Dunn resolve differences

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University and former women's basketball coach Lin Dunn announced today (Tuesday, 4/15) that all disagreements between them have been amicably resolved.

Purdue Athletic Director Morgan Burke and Dunn stated that they were pleased to have arrived at an understanding on the issues that have divided them since Dunn's contract was not renewed in March 1996 after a successful nine-year stint as women's basketball coach.

Burke stated: "When we decided not to renew the coach's contract, one of our objectives was to allow her to leave Purdue in a strong position to pursue other coaching opportunities if she chose. Unfortunately, some segments of the public and the marketplace interpreted the decision in a negative way, which put her at a disadvantage in her search for a new position. In making our decision not to renew, it was never our intention to suggest or imply that Coach Dunn had conducted herself unlawfully or unethically. I am pleased that the record has been put straight and that she has made a fresh start in the American Basketball League."

Meanwhile, Dunn expressed her satisfaction with her Purdue experience, saying: "My years at Purdue were a great experience. I was privileged to coach at a major university, and I truly enjoyed coaching in the Big Ten Conference." Dunn added her "sincere congratulations to Coach Nell Fortner, her staff and her team on an outstanding season" and her best wishes for their future success.
