-- James K. Risk III, president and chief executive officer of Lafayette-based Kirby Risk Corp., will receive the 1997 Krannert School of Management Distinguished Executive Award from Beta Gamma Sigma, an undergraduate business honorary society, and the School of Management Undergraduate Council. The award will be presented at the undergraduate honors banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the University Inn, West Lafayette. The award was established in 1996.
-- The Purdue Alcohol and Other Drug Problem Prevention Networking Group will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in the cafeteria of the Purdue Student Health Center. Students are encouraged to attend the meeting to plan and review activities and services designed to prevent alcohol- and other drug-related problems. -- William Evers, associate professor of foods and nutrition, received the Indiana Dietetic Association Honored Dietitian Award. The award goes to a registered dietitian for contributions to the profession at the local, state and national levels.
-- The Purdue chapter of Phi Beta Kappa has renamed its literary awards the Virginia R. Ferris Phi Beta Kappa Literary Awards in honor of Ferris, professor of entomology, who has been a Phi Beta Kappa senator for 18 years. Phi Beta Kappa is an honor society devoted to the recognition and encouragement of excellence in the liberal arts and sciences.
-- Michael R. Melloch, professor of electrical engineering, was elected vice chairman of the Electronic Materials Committee of the Minerals Metals & Mining Society. He will serve until June 1999.
