Purdue Faculty & Staff Honors
-- Daniel S. Elliott, professor of electrical engineering, was elected Fellow of the Optical Society of America for his pioneering contributions to the field of atomic and molecular coherent control, including the first demonstration of interfering optical interactions.
-- William Evers, associate professor of foods and nutrition, received the Indiana Dietetic Association Honored Dietitian Award. The award goes to a registered dietitian for contributions to the profession at the local, state and national levels.
-- The Purdue chapter of Phi Beta Kappa has renamed its literary awards the Virginia R. Ferris Phi Beta Kappa Literary Awards in honor of Ferris, professor of entomology, who has been a Phi Beta Kappa senator for 18 years. Phi Beta Kappa is an honor society devoted to the recognition and encouragement of excellence in the liberal arts and sciences.
-- Michael R. Melloch, professor of electrical engineering, was elected vice chairman of the Electronic Materials Committee of the Minerals Metals & Mining Society. He will serve until June 1999.
