Thrust: The arrival of spring means more road construction. Indiana's Department of Transportation and Purdue University are coming up with solutions to make the roadways better for Hoosier drivers.
1. ANCHOR ON CAMERA Purdue University and Indiana's Department of Transportation are digging up new ideas this week about making road construction more efficient. Connie Ostler (AUS- lur) has the story.

CG: Video Courtesy Purdue University One sure sign of spring is construction crews on Indiana's roads and highways. At the Indiana Road School at Purdue University this week, more than one thousand local and state highway officials gather to make construction easier on the state pocketbook -- and on Hoosier drivers.

out to the street and actually apply it to a beneficial use for our citizens.
I'm looking forward to this experience to be able to bring some knowledge back home
and put it to work for the residents.
Not only has it helped me be cost effective, it's helped me keep up with regulations and rules as they came down.
5. NAT SOUND Workshop participants include people who are responsible for the financing, planning, and maintenance of about ninety-seven thousand miles of roads and highways in Indiana. Every year they develop new ideas and technology to make that workload lighter and more efficient.

Highway and Extension research, Purdue University Among the new technologies. . . that we talked about at this year's Road School, the Indiana Department of Transportation has come up with a new specification for pipe placements. I think there will be quite a big interest in that.

CG: Don Lucas, Chief Engineer, Indiana Dept. of Transportation We're going into a new asphalt paving process called Super Pave. . the matter has been discussed at Purdue Road School and it's expected to spread nationwide.
