Guest director will be Rita Giomi. While growing up in Seattle, she aspired to become a nuclear engineer. In college she concentrated first on engineering, but theater classes eventually won out.
Despite the career change, Giomi said her love of engineering affects her directing. "Science is about examining a construct, deconstructing, re-examining and resynthesizing it. That is also what directing is about," she explained, "but you do it with language and character; human events instead of physical ones."
In addition to the regular 10-performance run, matinee performances of "The Shrew" have been added at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, and Saturday, April 19. Evening show times are 8 p.m. April 10-19 and 6 p.m. April 20. Discounted general admission tickets can also be purchased to the final dress rehearsals at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 8 and 9. General admission tickets are $10.50, $6.50 for students and senior citizens, and are available at the Loeb Box Office in Stewart Center, (765) 494-3933.
