march 25: Indiana forage-livestock seminar
The seminar, sponsored by the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and the Indiana
Forage Council, will have sessions on management intensive grazing, grazing lands
conservation, forage livestock management practices and more. There also will be
a trade show. 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Jasper VFW in Jasper. Fee is $10. CONTACT: Jim Peter,

MARCH 31: DAIRY COW FOOT AND LEG PROBLEM SEMINAR
The seminar, sponsored by the Elkhart County Extension Office, Dr. Weldy's Associates
Veterinarians and the Zinpro Corp., will feature Dr. Paul Greenough, retired professor
of surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan
and an expert on foot and leg problems. He will discuss Laminitis, founder, foot rot
and hairy warts. The program runs from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Elkhart County
Community Center on the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds. Dinner reservations can be
made by calling the Elkhart County Extension office and are limited to two people per
family. The lunch is sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health and Upjohn Pharmaceuticals.

APRIL 5: Indiana State Beekeepers Association meeting
The Indiana State Beekeepers Association and Purdue University will co-sponsor this
meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 214, Stewart Center. Fee is $5 at the door.
The meeting will include sessions on pollination and controlling mites. Jim Mast,
a northeastern Indiana beekeeper, will conduct a workshop for people who want to get started

April 11-13: Hoosier horse fair
This three-day fair at the state fairgrounds in Indianapolis will include 15 4-H events,
including shows, clinics, public speaking contests, demonstration contests, grooming
contests and a horse bowl. Fee for each 4-H event is $5, which was due by March 15, but some contests will accept late entries with a late fee. Entry forms are available
at each county Cooperative Extension Service office. The fair also features a large

April 17: Ibep bull sale and video auction
The Indiana Beef Evaluation Program sale will consist of 125 bulls, all in the top
67 percent of their breed and all of which have passed structural and breeding exams.
The sale will begin at 6 p.m. at the Springville Feeder Auction 10 miles northwest
of Bedford. Video sites around the state will be Southeast-Purdue Ag Center in Butlerville,
Tippecanoe County Extension Office in Lafayette, Parke County Extension Office in
Rockville, Washington County Extension Office in Salem and the Justice Building in

April 18-20: bug bowl
Bug Bowl features roach races, an insect petting zoo, insect crafts, honey tasting,
butterfly exhibits, a cooking-with-insects contest, a cake-decorating contest, and
a contest where folks decorate a Volkswagen beetle as an insect. Registration is
required for the cooking and cake-decorating contests. Bug Bowl is held in and around the
Entomology Building from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 18; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April
19; and noon to 4 p.m. April 20. The event is free and part of the annual Ag Open

April 19: project future
The program offers college-bound students in grades 9-12 the chance to participate
in hands-on activities in college classrooms with Purdue professors. Registration
is required, and enrollment forms are available from principals, guidance counselors,

April 19: Agronomy Open House
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Lily Hall of Life Sciences. Activities include painting with soil-based
paints, a hands-on soil-texture guessing game, and a rainfall simulation that demonstrates

April 19: School of Veterinary Medicine Open House
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Lynn Hall. Activities include exotic animal exhibits, oxen team demos,
S.M.A.R.T. (a canine search and rescue team), and a milking contest. CONTACT: Beth

April 19: Forestry Open House
9 a.m.-5 p.m. Forestry and Forestry Products buildings. Activities and displays about
Indiana's natural resources and timber industry. Lafayette's Colombian Park Zoo also

April 19-20: Purdue Horticulture Show
8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days at the Horticulture Building on the Purdue campus. The 84th
Annual Horticulture Show's theme is "Hands-on Horticulture." Display gardens, landscaping
ideas, a question-and-answer booth, horticulture therapy, and plants for sale will be featured. Children's activities include face painting, planting flowers and vegetables,

APRIL 19-20: animal science open house/Boiler Barnyard
10 a.m.-3 p.m. both days on the lawn of Smith Hall. Activities include sheep-shearing
demonstrations, milking demonstrations, drawings, interactive displays, and children's
games organized by the Animal Science Ambassadors The event, which also will feature displays on academics and student life, is part of the annual Ag Open House. CONTACT:
