School of Technology names first Raisbeck Scholar

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue's School of Technology has its first-ever Raisbeck Scholar.

Randall C. Deal, a freshman from Crystal Lake, Ill., has won the new award based on his academic performance in high school. The four-year scholarship pays $1,600 per semester -- the equivalent of full tuition for an in-state student.

The award was made possible by a gift from Raisbeck Engineering Inc. of Seattle, Wash., and will be presented annually to a student majoring in aeronautical technology. All Raisbeck scholars will be funded for eight semesters provided they meet certain academic standards.

James Raisbeck, president and chief executive officer of Raisbeck Engineering, is a 1961 graduate of Purdue's School of Technology.
