New harvest technologies focus of bistate workshop

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Yield monitors, losing corn yield during field drydown and herbicide-tolerant crops will be the featured topics at a joint Purdue University-University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service program, Thursday, Feb. 12. The "Bi-State Harvesting New Crop Technologies" program will be held at the Beef House Restaurant, Covington, Ind.

This program also will offer a trade show, lunch and door prizes. Farmers from several counties in east-central Illinois and west-central Indiana are expected to attend.

Registration is $10 and includes lunch. No advance registration is necessary, and the doors will open at 9 a.m. EST. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., and the program will end at 2:30 p.m.

Speakers include Doug Harford, a farmer from Mazon, Ill., with numerous years of experience with yield monitors and analyzing yield maps; Bob Nielsen, a Purdue Cooperative Extension Service corn specialist; John Obermeyer, a Purdue Extension entomologist; Emerson Nafziger, a University of Illinois Extension corn specialist; and Dan Childs, a Purdue Extension weed specialist. There also will be panel discussion entitled "New Crop Technologies: Which Ones Are Ready to Harvest?"
