Rube Goldberg contest uplink available
Assigned task: Make a computer MORE difficult to operate. That's the challenge for
Purdue students participating in the annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest at 11:30
a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in Purdue's Elliott Hall of Music. Specifically, each team
is to build a machine that takes at least 20 steps to load a CD into a computer and run a
program, or into a CD player and play music. The students' machines often incorporate
objects scavenged from attics, toy chests and trash bins. The event honors the late
cartoonist Rube Goldberg, who specialized in drawing whimsical machines with complex mechanisms
to perform simple tasks. Information concerning a satellite feed of select footage
and interviews is listed below.
