JAN. 27-31: CROP MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS

The Purdue Pest Management Program is holding a series of crop management workshops around the state. They will include sessions on rootworms, pesticide regulation and soil compaction. Continuing education units will be awarded to certified crop advisers, and continuing certification hours are expected to be awarded to Indiana commercial applicators in certified categories 1A and 10. The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Fee is $40, and preregistration is encouraged. CONTACT: John Obermeyer, Department of Entomology, (765) 494-4563.

JAN. 28-29: 1997 INDIANA HORTICULTURAL CONGRESS

The Horticultural Congress, to be held at the Adams Mark Hotel in Indianapolis, is the annual meeting for several Indiana horticultural groups, including the Vegetable Growers Association, Farm Market Association and the Organic Farmers and Marketers Association. The program will focus on fruits and vegetables, marketing, new and alternative crops, grapes and wine, and processing tomatoes. Several Purdue specialists will make presentations. There also will be a trade show. Preregistration is $20 for the first individual from a business or household; registration at the convention will be $10 higher. Additional members of the operation can be registered for $15. The registration desk will open at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27. FEB. 2-8: INDIANA 4-H WEEK

More than 250,000 Indiana 4-H participants will celebrate this week in recognition of 4-H achievements and activities across the state. The week is designed to encourage new membership and bring additional volunteer leaders into the program. 4-H is an informal education program of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service for anyone aged 9 to 18. 4-H offers its members the opportunity to complete and exhibit projects in areas such as animal sciences, environmental education, mechanical science and plant science. The program also offers several school enrichment programs that help students learn through classroom activities and hands-on experience. FEB. 6-7: NORTH CENTRAL REGIONAL AQUACULTURE CONFERENCE

This two-day conference at the Adams Mark Hotel in Indianapolis is for Midwest aquaculturists. The conference, which is held every two years in a different Midwest state, will focus on the fundamentals of fish farming to improve efficiency and features seminars on quality control, marketing, feeds and feeding, water quality, and computer technology in aquaculture. Hosted by the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Program. Registration is $100. Proceedings will cost $20, or $25 for the compact disk. FEB. 7-8: FARMING TOGETHER

This two-day workshop focuses on improving working relationships on the family farm. Topics include business organization, writing job descriptions and determining reward structures, and creating a mission statement and agreeing on goals. Participants can be employers and employees, parents and adult children, spouses and partners. The workshop will run from 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, to noon Saturday, Feb. 8, at Purdue's Stewart Center. FEB. 8: PURDUE UNIVERSITY LAMBING SCHOOL

This annual school provides sheep producers with hands-on experience and informal discussion on lambing topics including nutrition, reproduction and lambing barn obstetrics. The school is sponsored by the Purdue Department of Animal Sciences, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and the Indiana Sheep Breeders Association. The school will be held at the Purdue Animal Sciences Research Center Sheep Unit. Registration is $30 and must be received by Jan. 30.
