Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings are designated by two asterisks (**).

• Wednesday, Jan. 15. "We Shall Overcome," an Emmy Award-winning film that uncovers the diverse cultural sources of the civil rights movement. 2 p.m. Black Cultural Center. Part of Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. A discussion will follow the screening.

• Monday, Jan. 20. Affirming the Dream II, a day of service in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Purdue students, faculty and staff will volunteer their time to Greater Lafayette community organizations.
