Fraternity and sorority leaders challenged to take lead

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Greek leaders from across the Midwest will meet at Purdue Sunday (11/5) to discuss challenges facing fraternities and sororities such as alcohol abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders and academic performance.

The 16th Annual Indiana Greek Leadership Conference, "Building Leaders Through Changing Times," will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning in the Memorial Union's North Ballroom.

"We are expecting 800 to 1,000 people to be in attendance," said Clayton Kinsler, director of leadership development for the Purdue chapter of the Interfraternity Council.

The conference, which allows participants to interact with peer leaders from across the nation, is sponsored by the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Association.

"This year's conference challenges Greeks to step up and take the lead," said Lesley Taulman, director of leadership development for the Panhellenic Association. "In addition to focusing on leadership and change, the conference offers sessions that encourage personal growth and focus on the changes faced by Greek organizations."

Among the speakers are: Rick Barnes, Texas Christian University director of student organization services; Nonnie Cameron, fraternity house mother and etiquette expert; Jennifer Jones-Hall, Valparaiso University assistant dean of students; and Bob Kerr, Oregon State University coordinator of Greek Life.
