March 23, 2004 Georgia State president to talk about professional success
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A former Purdue University professor will return to campus on Monday (3/29) to talk about her rise through academe. Dorothy Leland, president of Georgia College and State University and a former Purdue philosophy professor, will present "From Professor to President: How to Get What You Need to Succeed" from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union faculty lounges. Leland will discuss her rise through the ranks of higher education to the presidency of Georgia's public liberal arts college. She will focus on overcoming obstacles and capitalizing on strengths to create career success. "Dr. Leland is a dynamic, inspiring speaker who has had an outstanding career despite obstacles that might well have sidelined many," said organizational leadership and supervision assistant professor Mara Wasburn, who helped organize the event and will introduce Leland. "What she has to say will be relevant to men and women alike, particularly for students and young professionals beginning their careers." The talk, which is free and open to the public, is first event in the new Women's Leadership Series. The series is sponsored by Purdue's Office of the Provost, Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision, Women's Studies Program, Council on the Status of Women and the Women's Resource Center.
