Purdue dance company to perform Winter Works 2003

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Repertory Dance Company will present eight new dance works created by student and faculty choreographers at Winter Works 2003.

The dance company, which is housed in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, will perform at 8 p.m. on Dec. 11, 12 and 13 in the Experimental Theatre in Stewart Center. There also will be a performance at 3 p.m. on Dec. 13.

"Company dancers have spent this semester developing the ideas and visions of the choreographers," said Carol Cunningham, professor and chair of the dance division and co-director of the company. "This concert involves works that explore a range of expression including humor and poetry."

The dance works are:

•"Across the Broken Window," choreographed by Cunningham.

• "Water Color," choreographed by Sally Wallace, associate professor and co-director of the dance company. Sylvia Whitesides, an artist in Lafayette, collaborated on the costumes.

• "Kinetic Sculpture," choreographed by dance faculty member Mary Beth Van Dyke.

• "DOWN," choreographed by dance faculty member Holly Jaycox.

• "Opus 7," choreographed by Kathleen Hickey, a junior in political science from St. John, Ind.

• "A Bonded Affair," choreographed by Edward S. Martin III, a Purdue alumnus.

• "Spirits Crave Union," choreographed by Kyra McOmber, a senior in political science from Carmel, Ind.

• "Mindless Anonymity," choreographed by Kristin Pavelka, a senior in psychology from LaGrange Park, Ill.
