Latino Cultural Center fund-raising concert set for Nov. 22

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A multi-genre, multilingual concert will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22, to raise funds for Purdue's Latino Cultural Center.

Ska, punk and punk n'roll with a Latin flair are on the lineup for the 6 p.m. to midnight concert at University Church, 320 North St. Local recording artists Squirtgun, a pop-punk group whose song "Social" is the opening number on the movie "Mall Rats," will headline the show. It will be the group's first performance in West Lafayette in five years. The concert includes appearances by The Copyrights, Vicios de Papa', Iguana Son, Through My Veins, The Jim-Jims and Still Waiting.

"We're hoping to get from 150 to 300 people, hopefully a wide variety of people," said Jessie Snaza, Latino Cultural Center office coordinator. "The crowd will probably be mostly young people because of the type of bands that will be performing. But I know there are a few professors in the university who like punk, so maybe we'll get a few of those, too."

The concert is the first fund-raiser for the Latino Cultural Center, which opened in April. The center is located at the intersection of Harrison and Sheetz streets in the South Campus Courts complex. The center is student-driven and student-staffed, and serves as a cultural learning center for all students.

Admission at the door is a $6 minimum donation. For information, contact Snaza at (765) 494-2530, snaza@purdue.edu.
