November 14, 2003 Purdue marching band drum majors, section leaders namedWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Several new drum majors and section leaders have been taking on extra responsibility for the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band this fall. Drum majors Danielle Donovan of Dwight, Ill., and Bob Shriner of Mishawaka, Ind., lead the band. David Leppla, director of bands, selected them from 12 candidates who tried out for the leadership positions. Drum majors serve both ceremonial and practical leadership roles with the band. With their tall bear hats and maces, they lead the way when the band enters Ross-Ade Stadium and in parade appearances. They conduct all the tunes the band plays in the Ross-Ade stands and plan songs and cheers. Away from Ross-Ade and during rehearsals, they continue to serve a leadership role by helping the directors with a variety of details involved in creating new shows for every home football game.
