November 11, 2003 Play dramatizes life and death of Matthew ShepardWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –Two performances of the Laramie Project, a play dramatizing the violent death of Matthew Shepard, will be held Friday (11/14) and Saturday (11/15) to raise awareness of intolerance. Co-sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board and Purdue Equality Alliance, the play dramatizes the story of Matthew Shepard, a homosexual teenager, and the events surrounding his death. The play reflects on the town and people of Laramie, Wyo., and their reactions and opinions of Shepard's murder there on October 12, 1998. A campus-wide open audition was held for the parts in the entirely student-run production, according to Dani Taylor, student fine arts director for the Purdue Student Union Board. Ten students each perform multiple roles in the play. Both performances will start at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Hall at the Stewart Center. Doors for both shows open at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for students with Purdue ID cards and $7 for the general public. Tickets are available at the Purdue box office or by calling (765) 494-3933. Both performances are open to the public.
