November 10, 2003 Purdue Physics FunFest expands to include open house this yearWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue University physics department's annual FunFest will include an open house this year, offering fun and educational activities for both the layperson and seasoned physicist. The free event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (11/15) in the Physics Building. Highlights will include the FunFest demonstration show at both 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Room 114. There also will be ongoing tours of PRIME Lab, a special accelerator used for determining the age of ancient biological and geological samples such as rock from Stonehenge, which gather between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Room 338. In addition, there will be presentations on nanophysics and particle physics. "This year's event will be different than any other FunFest," said Julie A. Conlon, physics department outreach coordinator. "We have planned it so that a professional scientist and a curious young person will both find the day enjoyable. There will be more than 60 hands-on activities to help people understand the world around them, and tours of facilities that researchers can use as well."
