Workshop will help 'grant' organizations' wishes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service will offer a two-part training workshop to help members of organizations write effective grant proposals.

"Funding is essential to organizational growth and stability, and many organizations rely on grants to support the development of new products and services or existing programs," said Aadron Rausch, Extension specialist in Purdue's Department of Youth Development and Agricultural Education.

The Beginner's Guide to Grant Writing Workshop will take place on Feb. 2 and March 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST at 10 locations across the state. The two-day workshop will offer participants a chance to develop their ideas, tell their story, target potential funders and write winning proposals.

Participants will learn a step-by-step process to develop proposals on Feb. 2. They then take these skills home and develop a proposal so that when they return on March 5, they can move into the role of reviewer. Participants also will receive feedback on their proposals so they can make revisions before final submission.

"For many organizations, grant writing is a new area of professional development, laced with apprehension and confusion about where to start, what to do and how to be successful," Rausch said. "To be competitive, individuals need the knowledge and skills necessary to create a fundable initiative from a promising idea and identify potential donors."

Workshop locations are:

• Purdue Extension office in Allen County, 4001 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne.

• Clinton County Learning Network, 1701 S. Jackson St., Frankfort.
