Distinguished Extension educator award winner named

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Susan Peterson, county director of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service office in Hamilton County, is this year's recipient of the Paul B. Crooks Distinguished Extension Educator Award. The honor was announced Tuesday (10/21) during the Purdue Extension Development Conference banquet on Purdue's West Lafayette campus.

In addition to overseeing a staff of eight, Peterson is a consumer and family sciences educator who provides Purdue Extension programming in the area of human development. She also works with programs in leadership and community development. Some of her areas of programming over the years include after-school programs, an aging parent series, educational programs for the Hamilton County Juvenile Center and Mini 4-H.

Peterson also is a member of the Indiana Extension Educators Association and past area representative for the board of directors, National Extension Association Family Consumer Sciences and State Leadership Team.

The Crooks Award is a $2,500 cash endowment given to a Purdue Extension educator who has at least 10 years of experience. The award recognizes educators who have shown significant impact in their area of assignment, teamwork and collaboration, and exceptional Extension programming.

The award was named for Paul Crooks who was an Extension educator in Benton, Fountain and Morgan counties. He served as associate director of Purdue Extension from 1962 to 1982. The memorial award was first given in 1985.
