October 27, 2003 Receptions slated for shows featuring Twinrocker paperWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Evening receptions will celebrate the openings of two Purdue Galleries' shows that feature the use of Twinrocker Handmade Paper. One show also celebrates the 25th anniversary of Purdue Galleries. A reception introducing the 25th anniversary show will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday (10/30) in the Ringel Gallery. The show features original pieces made on Twinrocker paper by more than 50 artists whose work is represented in the Galleries' permanent collection. Each artist was invited to create a one-of-a-kind anniversary card for the show. A reception for "The Art of Twinrocker" will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Stewart Center Gallery, followed by a visiting artist lecture at 7 p.m. Pittsburgh artist Diane Samuels and Twinrocker Handmade Paper owners Kathryn and Howard Clark will discuss a recently completed book project, "Inscription," in which text was incorporated into each page through the use of watermark only. Both shows opened today (Monday, 10/27) and will run through Dec. 7. Located in Brookston, Ind., Twinrocker Handmade Paper has been instrumental in the resurgence of the modern-day use of fine handmade paper products by artists and bookmakers around the world, according to Craig Martin, director of Purdue Galleries. Martin says he received an "overwhelmingly generous response from a wide range of invited artists" for the 25th anniversary show. After the shows close, the works in the 25th anniversary show will be added to the Galleries' permanent collection as a commemorative portfolio. The Ringel Gallery in the Purdue Memorial Union and the Stewart Center Gallery are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, until 8 p.m. on Thursday, and from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
