Special Purdue events Sept. 25-Oct. 4

This is a special edition of Purdue University's reporter's calendar to focus on numerous news opportunities here during a 10-day countdown to our Oct. 4 Homecoming. As you know, Purdue is in the midst of a $1.3 billion campaign to raise the funds needed to fulfill a strategic plan focused on helping the Indiana economy, putting more faculty in the classroom, and raising money for scholarships to ensure that a Purdue education remains affordable. We'll be announcing more than $63 million in gifts toward meeting that goal.

We know you all like to tell your readers and audiences the news before it happens, so all of our related news releases will be available for release the morning of the events. We will transmit these stories to you the day before the event. We also have some big-picture story ideas and would be happy to share them with you and help you pursue them.

For example, an expanded story might ask this question: When other universities are cutting back, why is Purdue having so much success and expanding? Or, you might want to look at philanthropy: what makes it work, how the economy affects it, why donors give. Why (and how) is the university focusing its efforts on helping the Indiana economy?

We've tried to think of all of you. In addition to the news releases before the events, there will be photos and audio available on the Web before every event, and, in most cases, after the event as well. For television, we will mail a video b-roll package. After most of the events, we will post fresh photos, and audio and video also will be available for those who contact us ahead of time and make arrangements to receive it. We can drive it to Indianapolis outlets or ship it overnight to other outlets in the state.

Naturally, we hope some of you also will come to campus for some of these events. Let us know you're coming, and we will help you with any logistical challenges. Call us 24/7 and we will help: phone, (765) 494-2096; pager, (765) 423-8662.
