High school choirs to converge at Purdue for outdoor concert

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A concert featuring Purdue Musical Organizations ensembles and more than 350 high school students representing 16 choirs from throughout Indiana will take place Saturday, Sept. 20, following the football game and traditional concert from the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band.

The "Purdue Sings!" concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 5 p.m. on the Purdue Mall. Songs will include "From Sea to Shining Sea – A Fantasy based on 'America The Beautiful,'" arranged by Samuel A. Ward; "You Can't Stop the Beat," arranged by Ed Lojeski; and "Hail Purdue."

PMO director Brian Breed said he looks forward to working with the choirs to present a memorable performance.

"It's a great way to bring young musicians to campus every fall," Breed said. "The blending of voices and talents between our Purdue student performers and singers from around the state is a very exciting combination. We look forward to 'Purdue Sings!' becoming an annual event for the campus, community and for young performers from around the state."

High school choirs scheduled to perform include:

• North Vermillion High School, Cayuga.

• McCutcheon High School, Lafayette.

• North Montgomery High School, Crawfordsville.

• Brownstown Central High School, Brownstown.

• North Knox High School, Bicknell.

• Triton Central High School, Fairland.

• Lawrenceburg High School, Lawrenceburg.

• Heritage Hills High School, Lincoln City.

• Southern Wells High School, Poneto.

• Clinton Central High School, Michigantown.

• Madison-Grant United School Corp., Fairmont.

• Owen Valley High School, Spencer.

• Morton High School, Hammond.

• Maconaquah High School, Bunker Hill.

• Eastside High School, Butler.

• Leo Jr.-Sr. High School, Leo.
