Purdue's Black Cultural Center welcomes new students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – University officials posing as "celebrity chefs" will be just one of the attractions at Boilerfest New Student Orientation 2003, sponsored by the Black Cultural Center at Purdue University.

Boilerfest will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in the BCC parking lot, 1100 Third St. The orientation will feature live entertainment by the BCC performing arts ensembles. Various campus leaders and student organization representatives also will be present to answer questions.

Renee Thomas, BCC director, said the event will give new students the opportunity to find out what the Black Cultural Center has to offer.

"For first year students, the task of finding a niche in the vast amount of people and places at Purdue may be overwhelming," Thomas said. "That's why the BCC Boilerfest program was developed – with the idea of helping students connect with the BCC. The center strives to provide a welcoming, supportive and caring environment. We take great pride in the programs, opportunities and services we provide that enable first-year students to reach their full potential."

Boilerfest is free and open to the public.
