Purdue Board Of Trustees re-Elect officers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Friday, 7/11) re-elected Indianapolis businessman J. Timothy McGinley to a sixth two-year term as board chairman.

W. Wayne Townsend, a former state legislator and farmer from Hartford City, Ind., was re-elected as vice chairman. McGinley and Townsend joined the board in 1989 and were elected officers in 1993.

"Purdue's Board of Trustees is composed of highly accomplished and dedicated people," said Purdue President Martin C. Jischke. "Their vision, under the leadership of Tim McGinley, has positioned the university as one of America's great centers of learning and discovery, and they are making it possible for Purdue to reach new levels of excellence."

McGinley, who received a Purdue degree in chemical engineering in 1963 and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University in 1965, is the managing partner and principal owner of real estate investment company House Investments. McGinley was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000 and was recognized for academic achievement.

W. Wayne Townsend

Townsend, a 1951 graduate from Purdue's School of Agriculture, is a hog producer who farms 2,200 acres in Blackford and Grant counties. He served in the Indiana House of Representatives in 1959-61 and 1963-66 and in the Indiana Senate from 1971-87. He was the Democrats' 1984 nominee for governor.

The trustees also re-elected the following officers:

Treasurer - Kenneth P. Burns, Purdue executive vice president and treasurer.

Secretary - Roseanna Behringer.

Assistant treasurer and assistant secretary - James S. Almond, Purdue vice president for business services and assistant treasurer.

Legal counsel - Anthony S. Benton, partner in Stuart & Branigin, Lafayette.

Assistant legal counsel - Tom Parent, partner in Stuart & Branigin.

Robert Peterson

Purdue also received notification from Gov. Frank O'Bannon's office on two appointments. Barbara H. Edmondson, who has served on the board since 1997 was reappointed to another three-year term. Robert Peterson was appointed by O'Bannon to replace D. William Moreau Jr., who has served as a trustee since 1991. Peterson, a farmer and senior partner in the law firm of Peterson & Waggoner LLP., earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Purdue in 1952.
