June 27, 2003 President Jischke to discuss aviation on next radio showWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will discuss aviation at Purdue University, including its history and traditions, during his live call-in radio show from 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2. Dan Skinner, WBAA Radio manager, says listeners can talk with the president about a variety of topics related to aviation. "Purdue University enjoys a national reputation as aeronautical pioneers," Skinner says. "From the exemplary service at the Purdue Airport, to the accomplishments of Amelia Earhart, to the participation of aviation technology students in the Air Race Classic, topics to explore are as vast as the sky itself." Jischke also can discuss on-campus activities acknowledging the anniversary of the Wright brothers' first manned, powered flight on Dec. 17, 1903. They include special Purdue Convocations performances on Sept. 22-27 during Flight Week, which will conclude with an open house at the Purdue Airport. John Norberg, author of the forthcoming book "Wings of their Dreams: Purdue in Flight," also will be in the studio with Jischke to discuss Purdue's links to aviation history. His book is scheduled to be published by the Purdue University Press in September. It includes stories about Purdue people who played meaningful roles in flight through the century, from those who worked with the Wright brothers to 22 alumni who have served as astronauts.
